Spring seems to make people happy. There’s more light and everyone is constantly smiling without a special reason. Life feels just wonderful. That’s why this new season is definitely worth celebrating and that’s why I decided to share these 5 easy ways to celebrate spring with you guys.
Some of you may think that I’m writing this blog post pretty late since spring has started already back in March and hey, today it’s May 1st. Yep, this maybe true for you, but in Finland we had snow in March. Actually the last time I saw snow was yesterday since there was this big snowstorm in Finland which made me want to cry or to move somewhere warm. But it’s over now and no more snow on the ground here. But that’s the reason I decided to write and publish this blog post today.
Spring has finally arrived to Finland as well and today was the first relatively warm day of the year. It’s great especially because we are celebrating Vappu here in Finland which is basically a spring festival when everyone is happy and eats those greasy, sugar-coated doughnuts and buys there are big colorful balloons everywhere. It’s one of my favorite festivals and that’s why I’m very happy that we had a lovely, sunny day here.
Okay, let’s move on. I promised to share 5 easy ways to celebrate spring and that’s what I’m going to do. So, here they are.
5 Easy ways to celebrate spring
1. Buy a huge bunch of flowers
I love fresh flowers and who wouldn’t? A huge bunch of roses, carnations, tulips, hydrangeas or peonies will definitely make your day. I try to buy fresh flowers every week because I think they are the best way to cheer up your home. They also make me smile. You can also keep a bouquet of flowers on your desk at the office. I promise they will make working feel easier and more pleasant.
2. Wear a floral dress
Spring is all about flowers and having a bunch of flowers at home isn’t enough. I love floral dresses and prints and honestly, I own at least 5 floral dresses and I love all of them. Wearing something pretty makes me feel pretty too. You should try it too! One thing I love about floral dresses is that there’s one for everyone. Whether your style is bohemian, preppy, girly or sexy, you can find a dress that is perfect for you.
3. Eat asparagus
Asparagus is the one vegetable that reminds me of spring. In Finland we only eat asparagus in spring and it is so good I could eat it everyday. I usually cook boiled or pan-fried asparagus but you can cook it in other ways too. Try some grilled asparagus with parmesan cheese or add some asparagus to your risotto. It’s so good and healthy too!
4. Have a picnic
Having a picnic is an essential part of spring. Head into the local park or into your own back yard with your favorite people. Eat some sandwiches and strawberries and drink something delicious like champagne, beer or coffee. Picnics are actually a traditional way to celebrate May 1st in Finland but usually it’s too cold and wet to really have a picnic. But maybe in couple of weeks it’s finally warm enough to have one.
5. Grow some herbs on your windowsill
My inner gardener always wakes up at spring. We have some very ambitious plans for our balcony this year since we are going to grow some tomatoes and herbs in there. Spring is also the perfect time to start a little herb garden. Try growing basil or thyme on your windowsill or in your balcony. It’s actually very easy and I bet you’re going to love it.
So, this was a list of 5 easy ways to celebrate spring. What do you think? How are you going to celebrate spring this year?
