Like I’ve said before I love planning and setting goals. Of course, I believe that life shouldn’t be all figured out and you need to leave some room for spontaneity. But I also believe that usually good things don’t just happen. You need to work for them. No one is going to get that killer career or a lovely family without working for it. You are the one who makes your life great. You are the one who makes it happen. And in order to do that you need a plan. You need a vision. That’s why you should write a five-year plan.
I know this may sound like a huge cliche to you, but I really believe writing a five-year plan works. While daily and weekly goals help you to stay on track on a daily basis, a five-year plan is like a map that shows you the big picture. It tells you where you are going and what you want to achieve in the long run. It also answers the question why. Whenever you feel unmotivated and when you want to quit, you should take a look at your plan and immediately understand why you are doing what you do.
When you have figured out your five-year plan it’s also easier to understand how much your daily actions matter but also how it’s okay to take a day or a week off every now and then. If you keep disciplined like 80 percent of the time that 20 percent doesn’t really matter. For me this has really been a huge game changer since I have a terrible habit of being too hard to myself.
How a five-year plan helps you to build a stronger personal brand
Since June is a personal branding month here on my blog, I can’t write about writing a five-year plan without explaining how much it can actually strengthen your own personal brand. If you have no idea what’s the purpose of your personal brand, I suggest you to read this blog post I wrote before. Anyway, when you want to craft a killer personal brand, you need to have a plan. You need to know things like
- What do you want to achieve in the future?
- What’s your big vision?
- What kind of personal brand will help you to achieve your goal?
As you can see, you need to know what kind of personal brand will help you to accomplish your goals. if you don’t have a vision or a big goal, it’s almost impossible to know what you should do with your personal branding.
